PROFILE

The Father - Kenny

Kenny is well known around Deeside & Donside as the local Chimney Sweep/Builder…. touring around with his white van with the ladders on top keeping the lums in the area clean and safe!

Kenny started his working life as an apprentice Stone Mason with, at the time, the local Aboyne firm of Builders. At this time he was involved with the building of houses, farm steadings etc. After serving his 5 year apprenticeship and staying a few more years with the same firm he moved on to a couple of other firms finally ending up as Foreman Mason with Banchory Contractors, who had recently started up.

In 1977 Kenny decided to branch out on his own and started his own building firm. This has changed several times over the years from building houses, steadings etc to chimney sweeping and now to specialising in fireplace work i.e. building in fireplaces, relining chimneys both traditional and flexi, fitting Woodburning/multi fuel stoves and any chimney/flue related work. Because of new regulations etc he is often asked by local builders, who have built a house, to come along and build in a fireplace or fit a stove.

Over the past few years we have carried out work for various Estate Agents, most of the local Estates, the National Trust for Scotland and Aberdeen Housing Partnership as well as having a good base of loyal customers.

Kenny is a Regional Executive for the National Association of Chimney Sweeps and covers, at the moment, the whole of Scotland.

Recently, he has branched out again into supplying stoves as well as fitting them and we have fitted out a store to display several of the types of stoves we can supply.

The Son - Ian

Ian started going out with his dad at a very early age, carrying in his covers etc. and generally being a “go for”. (He was pretty well rewarded for this by getting lots of “tips” from the customers!).

After leaving school, Ian branched out doing various jobs, electrical, roofing, digger work etc (even going to the Falklands for a year driving a slew) But after all this he then decided to follow in his dads footsteps, Ian really enjoys the chimney sweeping side of work (just like many young lad loves getting dirty)

Ian is also well known around Deeside/Donside as a Chimney Sweep/general Builder. He drives the other white van with the ladders on top and with the Elvis number plate on the front and the children’s handprints on the back! (Ian has a son and a daughter who love to decorate his van)

He has done various courses for Chimney Sweeping, Chimney Work, etc as well as Health and Safety, and some certificates for driving heavy plant machinery. He usually operates the Cherry Picker we are using it more for many castles and high buildings ect...

Like his dad Ian is a Registered HETAS engineer.

Ian is now a partner in the business K & I Paterson which supplies or supplies and fits stoves. The firm concentrates with all chimney related work, relines of all kinds and of course chimney sweeping.
